The deadline for nominations is in September

Nominations for the inaugural Rescue Pet Awards can be submitted until 30 September 2026. Through these awards, the organisation Only Rescues aims to recognise animal shelters, volunteers, foster carers, businesses and rescued animals that are committed to animal welfare.

There are 17 categories in total. These include, amongst others, ‘UK Shelter of the Year’, ‘International Shelter of the Year’, ‘Volunteer-Led Shelter of the Year’, ‘Foster Carer of the Year’ and ‘Rescue Volunteer of the Year’. Other categories recognise, amongst others, veterinary practices, groomers, pet food and insurance providers, retailers and companies that support animal welfare.

Two categories are dedicated to the animals themselves: “Rescue Dog of the Year” and “Rescue Cat of the Year”. These are designed to highlight the stories of dogs and cats that have had a lasting impact on the lives of the people around them.

'We launched the Rescue Pet Awards to give the work of animal shelters and the many people behind them the recognition they deserve,' explains Tara Hamdi, founder of Only Rescues. At the same time, the aim is to honour the extensive network of foster families, volunteers, vets, groomers and supporting organisations.

The winners will be announced on 24 November 2026 at the awards ceremony at the Andaz London Liverpool Street. The event will be hosted by dog behaviour expert and TV personality Victoria Stilwell.
