Only Rescues has announced the launch of the inaugural Rescue Pet Awards, a new national initiative celebrating the pets, people, shelters and businesses making an extraordinary difference to rescue animals across the UK and beyond. Hosted by renowned dog trainer and television presenter Victoria Stilwell — best known for It's Me or the Dog — the awards will culminate in a ceremony in London on 24 November 2026, with nominations now open.
Created at a time when many rescue organisations face rising demand, the awards recognise the volunteers, foster carers, veterinary professionals, groomers, pet care providers and businesses that help rescue dogs and cats find happier, healthier futures. The programme features 17 categories, including Rescue Dog of the Year, Rescue Cat of the Year, UK Shelter of the Year, Rescue Volunteer of the Year, Best Veterinary Practice for Rescue Pets and Best Retail Brand.
‘Every rescue pet has a story, but behind every rescue pet is an entire community of people working tirelessly to give animals a second chance,’ said founder Tara Hamdi. ‘We hope the Rescue Pet Awards inspire even more people and organisations to get involved in supporting rescue animals.’
The awards are brought to you by Only Rescues, a multi-award-winning app that matches rescue dogs and cats with adopters and works with more than 200 rescue organisations across the UK. Founding sponsors include Agria Pet Insurance, Butternut Box, Marro, Nobull, Tug-E-Nuff, Simply Jaspers, Glowcroft, Mackle Petfoods, Gatehouse Awards, Tarragon Wealth, WildWash and Pet Remedy, with more to be announced. Nominations across all 17 categories are open at www.therescuepetawards.com.
