Heathrow animal centre recertified by IATA for a third time

The Heathrow Animal Reception Centre (HARC), run by the City of London Corporation, has been re-certified under the International Air Transport Association's CEIV Live Animals scheme for a third consecutive cycle. The certification rests on an independent assessment of the centre's facilities, procedures, staff expertise and regulatory compliance in the handling of live animals carried by air.

HARC operates on the perimeter of Heathrow Airport and carries out health and welfare checks on animals entering the United Kingdom, from pets and livestock to zoo animals and exotic species. It enforces British and international import rules, works with airlines on handling standards and forms part of the country's defences against the introduction of diseases such as rabies.
