Montego Pet Nutrition, which claims to be Africa’s biggest privately-owned manufacturer of pet food, has recently acquired nine independent depots in Pretoria, Kapstadt, Durban, Gqeberha, East London, Bloemfontein, Barkley East, Naboomspruit and Ermelo. The company is also going to take on over 100 employees of the previous owner.

The pet food manufacturer aims to optimise its supply chains further to take account of the rapid growth and increased customer demand over the last 18 months. “The depots are sited in strategic locations with central points in every province to maximise delivery efficiency,” said Johann Kotze, supply chain executive at Montego. Together with a fleet of 110 vehicles, the new depots will ensure that the 100 000 tonnes of pet food produced annually gets safely and efficiently to the customers.
