Big fines imposed on Royal Canin and its trading partners

Conseil de la concurrence penalises alleged price-fixing in French speciality trade

The French Conseil de la concurrence, an independent agency responsible for analysing and regulating market competition, has imposed a fine of € 5 mio on the pet food manufacturer Royal Canin and its trading partners for alleged price-fixing in the years 1998 to 2000. Royal Canin must pay € 2.5 mio, Truffaut € 1.5 mio, Delbard € 279,000, Tripode € 210,000, Rhonaldis € 98,000, Normandie Loir Distribution € 89,000, Ferrat € 71,000, Canidis € 65,000, Alpadis € 60,000, Cazenave € 37,000, Fapac-Tivadis € 34,000, Garibaldi € 29,000, Sodegal € 24,000, Les jardins de Pacy € 4,000 and Canin Valdoie € 1,000. Royal Canin is to appeal against the sentence of the Conseil de la concurrence.
