Packaging manufacturer Mondi has presented a concept in which designs are applied to flexible packaging by laser rather than by conventional printing. It combines a corrugated outer box with a recyclable flexible inner pack and has been developed for e-commerce and bag-in-box applications. It won the sustainability category of the German Packaging Award 2026.
Laser marking applies the design directly during converting, so printing plates are no longer required. According to the company, designs can therefore be changed at short notice and personalised, and lead times are shorter. The process can be used on reel stock as well as on pre-made stand-up pouches such as the re/cycle StripPouch or larger bags such as the re/cycle FlexiBag.
