The film manufacturer Südpack has published its sixth sustainability report. In it, the group documents progress in implementing its sustainability strategy up to 2030. The focus is on recyclable packaging solutions, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and greater transparency in the supply chain.
In the development of sustainable packaging, Südpack is increasingly focusing on monomaterial films based on polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). Investments in the Erolzheim site and new extrusion lines are intended to expand the relevant production capacities. According to the company, films designed for recycling currently account for 27 per cent of sales. New developments include PE pouch solutions from the CarbonLite product family, the NutriGuard single-material blister concept for food supplements, and further-developed high-performance PP films.
Südpack also reports significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The short-term climate targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), envisage a 76 per cent reduction in direct and energy-related emissions by 2030 compared with the base year 2021. According to the company, 96 per cent of this reduction target had already been achieved by 2025.
As regards indirect emissions along the value chain, the report states that 64 per cent of the reduction target set for 2030 had been achieved. This target envisages a 25 per cent reduction in emissions from purchased goods and services.
Furthermore, in 2025, 92 per cent of the Group’s electricity came from renewable sources. Energy consumption fell by 2.6 per cent compared with 2024, placing it 19 per cent below the level of the base year, 2021.
Progress is also being made in the assessment of suppliers: currently, 78 per cent of the procurement volume is covered by a sustainability rating. In the EcoVadis rating, the company achieved a total of 86 out of 100 points in 2025 and, according to its own figures, continues to rank among the top one per cent of assessed companies. Improvements were made in particular in the areas of ethics and sustainable procurement.
Furthermore, Südpack intends to embed the issues of water and biodiversity more firmly into its strategy in future. According to the company, the sustainability strategy is being continuously developed and implemented across the business divisions with clear responsibilities, targets and key performance indicators.
