United Petfood, a Belgium-based international pet food manufacturer, announced in early April it has purchased the Jupiter production facility in Drummondville, Quebec from Legault Group. This purchase represents a landmark moment for United Petfood as it marks the company’s first dry manufacturing plant in Canada. This strategic move to establish local production in Canada, not geographically far from the dry production site in the U.S., signifies a pivotal step in solidifying its presence in this key market.
‘This acquisition allows us to better serve our customers with locally produced, high-quality petfood,’ states Dominiek Dumoulin, United Petfood Group President.
‘The factory is very well invested with the newest petfood production technology and offers possibilities for further expansion. We continue to see interesting opportunities for growth in both the Canadian market and internationally,’ says Dries Eeckhout, United Petfood Group CEO. Jupiter, a state-of-the-art facility located in Drummondville, Quebec, began operations in 2023. It develops and manufactures several lines of dry pet food using high-quality ingredients.
United Petfood partners up with Lider
A week earlier, Lider Petfood, a Turkey-based international pet food manufacturer, in partnership with United Petfood, announced the acquisition of the dry production facility in Kīırklareli, Turkey, from Maya Company Pet Food. This strategic move marks a significant milestone in the company’s 2026 expansion roadmap, enabling both Lider Petfood and United Petfood to meet surging demand across national and international markets, it said.
Spanning over 30,000m² (322.917 sq ft), the facility brings advanced manufacturing capabilities and specialized expertise into the Lider Petfood family. The site’s high-spec equipment and processing technology aligns seamlessly with United Petfood’s existing operations, ensuring a smooth integration and immediate scaling of production.
Furthermore, the facility’s prime location ‒ situated near Istanbul and providing a gateway to Eastern Europe ‒ is a pivotal step in solidifying the presence of both Lider Petfood and United Petfood within these key regions.
