Quarterly figures

Analysts disappointed by Amazon

30.07.2019

In its figures for the second quarter of 2019, Amazon has reported a net result that has increased by 100 mio dollars compared with the same quarter in the previous year from 2.5 to 2.6 bn dollars (approx. 2.3 bn euros). Analysts are disappointed, however, as they expected more, according to reporting by Das Handelsblatt among others.
One reason identified for the rise of "just four per cent" is the cost of Amazon's logistics offensive for Prime customers, which was around 800 mio US dollars in the second quarter. On the other hand, Amazon succeeded in increasing its sales in the second quarter by 20 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2018 to 63.4 bn dollars. The operating loss was 601 mio dollars.
For the third quarter Amazon expects sales of up to 70 bn dollars, which would equate to an increase of up to 24 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.
