The European Pet Food Industry Federation (Fediaf) has published its 2026 Facts & Figures report, putting the value of pet food produced across Europe for now 306 million pets at €29.4 billion in 2024, on a volume of 8.6 million tonnes. The figures represent industry growth of 1%, with value growth of 4%. The figures were published alongside Fediaf's wider Annual Report 2025/2026, which gathered data from two years prior to publication.

According to the data, compiled with Soulor Consulting from Fediaf's 15 national association members, 140 million European households – 49% of the total – now own at least one pet. The continent's pet population stands at 306 million, including 91 million dogs, 111 million cats, 44 million ornamental birds, 23 million small mammals, 10 million terraria and 28 million aquaria.

Dry food remains the dominant format by volume for both species, accounting for 60% of dog food and 36% of cat food. By value, however, treats make up a notably larger share of the dog category (27%) than wet dog food alone would suggest, while wet formats lead cat food value at 60%.
