Zoo Hobby strengthens its foothold in the Balkans with the acquisition of the expanding pet store chain in Croatia

The wholesaler Zoo Hobby was established in 1975 as one of the first pet shops in the region. It has subsidiaries in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and distributes the Hill’s, Tetra, Ferplast, Versele Laga and Interquell brands among many others. By acquiring the Croatian pet shop chain Zoo City, the company wants to create a strong platform and impetus for the growth of the local pet product industry throughout the region. Zoo City opened its first store in 2008 and is regarded as one of the first pet supplies retailers to incorporate veterinary pharmacies and grooming salons. The chain now comprises 12 outlets, with four new stores set to open this year. “Zoo City has great potential in the Croatian market, as confirmed by its growing sales and the market share boost. We will create a quality synergy in the sector and make the most of the company’s potential,” said Edvard Varda, director of Zoo Hobby.
