Baumax planning market entry in Bulgaria and Romania

Four new openings scheduled across Europe in the coming year

The Austrian DIY store and garden centre operator Baumax has expanded its store in Innsbruck/Neu Rum from 3,340 m2 to 8,200 m2 and converted it to the new “Baumax Best” format. Group turnover for the chain last year came to 1.001 bn €. In Austria, Baumax increased its sales by 5.6 per cent to 530 mio €. The company also operates DIY stores and garden centres in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia, and international sales accounted for 47 per cent of the total turnover. Four new stores are set to open this year, two of them in the Czech Republic, while some existing outlets there and in Austria, Hungary and Slovakia will be revamped or converted. Baumax’s fourth store in Slovenia is expected to open in the coming year, and three new openings are in the pipeline in Croatia. Baumax is currently planning its entry into the Romanian and Bulgarian markets.
