How can live animals and products requiring expert guidance be sold online without customers seeing them beforehand? Konishi Europe shows how daily content, community engagement and online auctions are digitalising a niche market built on expert advice.
It all began not with a business plan, but with Martin Kammerer’s father’s garden pond. His fascination with koi began there in the late 1990s. Contacts in the specialist pet trade, trips to Japan, growing expertise and his friendship with Joji Konishi, owner and president of Konishi Koi Farm, led to the creation of Konishi Europe.

With a wink, Kammerer describes himself as the ‘Chief Entertainment Officer’. The title reflects a mix of expertise, personality and entertainment: complex topics are made accessible without losing their technical substance.
