Private labels growing worldwide The share of private labels in the international consumer goods market is growing, according to a study published by A.C. Nielsen. In the latest study, it was revealed that private labels accounted for 17 per cent of the total volume of global sales in the period from May 2004 to April 2005, compared with 15 per cent in an analogous study in 2003. By contrast, the growth rate of manufacturer brands only increased by 2 per cent. Private labels enjoy the highest status in Europe, with a share of 23 per cent of the market. In North America private labels maintained their market share of 16 per cent and achieved a growth rate of 7 per cent. Measured in terms of sales volume, the pet food segment comes fourth with a market share of 21 per cent and a growth rate of 11 per cent. Tropica Aquarium Plants names new director The Danish company Tropica Aquarium Plants has appointed Lars Green to the position of director as of 1 October. He is to take over the job of the executive director, Claus Christensen, who intends to take on new responsibilities at Tropica in the foreseeable future. Lars Green brings with him more than fifteen years of international experience in sales and marketing. Also linked to his appointment was the setting up of a management team that consists of the executive director Claus Christensen, director Lars Green, sales director Martin Petersen and production director Kurt Sandvad.
Major award for FerplastJust a few months after its introduction, Ferplast's new brand identity has gained its first significant recognition. The aim of the new identity is to transform the Ferplast trademark into a brand.At the XI Grand Prix Brand Identity 2005 event, a regular event organized by the "Pubblicità Italia" journal, Ferplast was awarded first prize in the "Corporate Identity" category. The jury that rules on this important prize is composed entirely of marketing directors of recognized Italian and internationally known brands. Ferplast marketing director Alessandro Rossato appeared extremely pleased with the prestigious award. "It rewards the project of an Italian company that has embarked on the important step of repositioning, with the objective of raising the company's profile in the market and strengthening its own brand awareness."At the prestigious Grand Prix Brand Identity awards, Ferplast took first prize in the Corporate Identity category.
