The PET worldwide issue no. 3 is available.
21.07.2026

This edition focuses on primarily on Interzoo 2026 and dog-related products. Dog food remains one of the most resilient corners of the pet trade. The American Pet Products Association (APPA) reports that total US pet industry expenditure reached $158 bn in 2025. However, it is not so much prices that will dictate the trends for the coming years, but rather health and prevention. Read our analysis here.

Other topics covered in the new issue include:

International Pet Conference: This autumn, the International Pet Conference is hosting an industry summit on the Danish Baltic Sea coast, featuring a packed programme and leading representatives from the retail sector, industry and trade associations.

Interzoo: Enthusiasm is well-founded. Fruitful discussions and a market in flux: Interzoo 2026 showcased a self-assured industry –  one that drew its key inspiration not so much from the product shelves as from face-to-face exchanges.

Top trends at Interzoo: The world’s leading trade fair in Nuremberg for the pet industry showcased the most innovative products and trends shaping the sector.

Markets: The European Pet Food Industry Federation (Fediaf) has published its 2026 Facts & Figures report, putting the value of pet food for now 306 million pets at €29.4 bn in 2024.

2.5% growth: The market in Italy continues to focus heavily on cats, and the growing interest in pets and their welfare is driving the sector’s turnover to 5.3 billion euros.

European manufacturers are joining forces and have initiated the introduction of a standard for raw pet food, modelled on UK Pet Food.

Distribution: ‘Our USP is the passion of our people’. Six months ago, Torsten Toeller appointed a new CEO to lead Europe’s largest specialist pet retail chain. PET worldwide editor-in-chief Oliver Mengedoht spoke to him about the changes he intends to make.

From sweeping floors to €40 million. Anthony Gallagher set out to flip Petstop for a quick profit, not run it for 30 years. Instead, after a dot-com collapse nearly wiped him out, he built Ireland’s leading independent pet retailer.

Suppliers: Innovafeed, one of the world’s leading producers of insect protein, has announced the successful completion of its industrial ramp-up phase and the raising of €51 million.

Versele-Laga is becoming Versele: The global market leader in the ornamental bird and pigeon sectors also aims to strengthen its market position in other areas – and is even changing its name as part of this strategy.

Events: The only purely national pet fair celebrated a double milestone this year: the 18th ZooExpo coincided with NZB’s 70th anniversary.
