UK-based Universal Aqua Systems (UAS / okpet.co.uk) has been selected by Maidenhead Aquatics to supply fish systems for two new stores. Maidenhead Aquatics is the UK's largest aquatics retail chain, with more than 130 stores.

According to UAS director Ben Francis-Woodward, the company has focused on simplifying the plumbing, easing maintenance, shortening lead times and giving the systems a more premium shop-floor appearance – for example through handmade, powder-coated metal ticket rails in place of plastic or aluminium strips. The supplier says it is gaining ground in a market that has long been dominated by a single established provider, having moved from independent stores to larger chains.

UAS states that it is planning a wider expansion into Europe and is already fielding enquiries from Germany and the Czech Republic. A new "Gen 2" range with soft-close 185-degree hinges is announced.
