Innovafeed and inflammation research specialist Ambiotis have published in vitro results demonstrating anti-inflammatory properties of Hilucia for Pets, Innovafeed's black soldier fly larvae-derived ingredient. In a canine whole blood model, the ingredient's hydrosoluble fraction selectively modulated cytokine secretion — reducing pro-inflammatory TNF-α to levels comparable to the reference compound dexamethasone, while simultaneously increasing anti-inflammatory IL-10.

Unlike conventional anti-inflammatory compounds, which tend to suppress cytokine secretion broadly, Hilucia for Pets showed a selective, dual action that supports active resolution of inflammation rather than simply inhibiting it. The researchers hypothesise that a 3% inclusion rate in dog kibble could deliver sufficient active compounds to produce an observable effect, though further in vivo testing is needed to confirm optimal dosing.

The ingredient is positioned for use in sensitive, joint health, and digestive pet food formulations and was presented at Interzoo in Nuremberg. A full white paper is available at Innovafeed.
