Pets Place has opened a new flagship store in Bergen op Zoom, strengthening its retail presence in the Netherlands, according to a media release. The store, which opened on 19 December, is located on Van Konijnenburgweg and spans more than 2,100 sq m, making it one of the company’s largest outlets nationwide, it said.
The new site replaces Pets Place’s former store on Oude Moerstraatsebaan. According to Operations Director Bart Scheffer, the move reflects the need for additional space and a stronger regional role. 'Our previous store had outgrown its location,' he said. 'This new site offers excellent accessibility, sits directly next to De Zeeland shopping centre and provides ample parking, making it convenient for customers from both Bergen op Zoom and the surrounding area.'
Specialist-led Store Format
The flagship store features expanded space for live animals alongside a dedicated equestrian department. Store Manager Leon said the layout has been designed around regional customer demand, with a strong emphasis on specialist knowledge.
'Every department is staffed by trained specialists who can advise customers on appropriate nutrition, care and housing for their pets,' he said. 'We have also recruited additional colleagues with expertise in reptiles, aquatics and veterinary nutrition, while much of our existing team has relocated to the new store, ensuring continuity for customers.'
Preventive Care Services
A key addition to the new flagship is Pets Place’s Health Point, a customer service concept focused on preventive pet care. At the Health Point, pet owners can receive free advice from para-veterinary professionals on areas such as nutrition, dental care and skin and coat health, as well as weigh their pets. 'By offering accessible, expert advice at no cost, we aim to support long-term pet health while keeping our services affordable.'
Expanded Pet Food Range
The Bergen op Zoom flagship store also offers a significantly expanded pet food range, including dry and wet food, treats, fresh meat, grain-free options and diets tailored to specific sensitivities. The assortment includes natural and sustainably produced foods, as well as an extensive selection of veterinary diets.
'This allows us to better support pets with medical or diet-related needs, while offering customers greater choice and clarity,' Leon said.
