The Community of Madrid has launched the campaign ‛El Plan es Adoptar’ (The Plan Is to Adopt) to promote responsible pet ownership. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Kiwoko, will be held at 20 animal shelters across the region over the weekends of 13–14 and 20–21 December 2025. The aim is to showcase the work of animal welfare organisations and to help abandoned dogs and cats find a family.

The first event, which was held at one of the company’s stores, was attended by families with dogs from the Community of Madrid’s Integrated Animal Reception Centre (CIAAM) in Colmenar Viejo, who shared their experience of the adoption process.

Reducing animal abandonment

The regional government, for its part, has issued a call for responsibility and proper care of animals, particularly at this time of year, in order to reduce the number of abandonments in the region. Thanks to increased awareness and the work of the centres, 2,190 dogs and 2,409 cats found a family during the first nine months of the year.

The organisations taking part in this campaign are: AIBA, ALBA, ANAA, APAP, ARAT; FAN, PROA, SPAP; the Henares-Jarama Association of Municipalities, Alcalá de Henares, Fuenlabrada, Las Rozas, Leganés, Madrid, Majadahonda, Parla, Rivas, Valdemoro, Alcorcón and the CIAAM.

A dedicated website has been made available to interested parties, with information on all participating animal welfare organisations, as well as visiting hours and contact details.
