Pet food manufacturer Kormotech has partnered with Petmall, Bulgaria's largest online retailer of pet supplies. Petmall also operates 17 physical stores and plans to open eight more over the next year and a half, expanding into more cities and strengthening its market leadership position. Dry and wet recipes from Optimeal, Club 4 Paws and Delickcious will be available both online and in Petmall's physical stores, the Ukrainian based Kormotech says in their media release.
“Kormotech products have been in the Bulgarian market for over eight years. In 2024, we sold 1,900 tons of pet food here – 39 per cent more than in 2023,” says Yuriy Bykoriz, Director of Development for Central and Eastern Europe at Kormotech. “We aim to become one of the top-3 market leaders within the next three to four years.”
Forecasts predict Bulgaria's pet food market will grow at an annual rate of 3.32% (CAGR) from 2025 to 2029. Analysts attribute this growth to more people adopting pets – about 25% of households already have at least one cat or dog.
In 2024, Bulgaria's pet food market returned to the premiumization trend, reports Kormotech. Consumers are once again choosing functional and personalized nutrition for their beloved pets, focusing on individual animal needs and natural ingredients.
“Despite growing online sales, Bulgaria remains a market where physical stores are the preferred choice for many pet parents,” observes Bykoriz. “The humanization of attitudes toward animals and growing awareness of nutrition's impact on their health drive demand for quality food.”
The Petmall partnership supports the company's export strategy through 2028, which calls for actively expanding Kormotech's presence in Central and Eastern Europe, where Bulgaria represents a key growth market.
