“We’re still actively welcoming sponsors, and there is still time for companies to make a big impact through sponsorship,” says the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC). The PSC invited everybody to join the Plastic Recovery July, an initiative that addresses the pet industry’s plastic waste, which largely goes unrecycled. “As we move into the second half of the month, we’re also putting a spotlight on fundraising ’teams‘ as an additional way to get involved. This is a great path for companies that want to make a difference but didn’t plan for sponsorship in this year’s budget,” explains Jim Lamancusa, CEO of the PSC.

By activating a company team, staff and employees can donate any amount toward the shared goal. It’s a flexible and meaningful way to engage the workforce and show your values in action, and teams will enter into a leaderboard for some friendly competition. (learn more here). This latest industrywide activation has the goal to recover 250 000 lbs of nature and oceanbound plastic in the month of July.

“We’re also seeing momentum from companies donating a percentage of their sales at month’s end.” Through a network of projects worldwide, PSC's partner Re-Purpose recovers plastic that would otherwise pollute nature, builds recycling infrastructure where it’s needed most, and empowers communities.

There are two different ways to get involved. “If you have a brand and you'd like to contribute you'll be able to claim a certain amount of plastic that's recovered for your entire brand”, explains Lamancusa. “You can also get your consumers engaged to offset and recover plastic and if you can't do it as a brand you can do it as an individual.”

Another way is to sponsor the initiative, which will enable you to engage employees, customers and stakeholders through the Plastic Pawsitive Team Challenge. It's a fun, competitive way to recover plastic, climb the leaderboard, and boost community engagement. Information at: https://petsustainability.org/PlasticRecoveryJuly/
