Mondi, a producer of sustainable packaging, and Saga Nutrition, a French manufacturer of pet food, have teamed up to introduce a line of recyclable, mono-material packaging, according to a press release.

Launched in 2004 under the name ‘re/cycle FlexiBag’, the new material will replace all non-recyclable plastic, but still promises to keep dry pet food fresh and protected from moisture and odour. It was designed to support the shift to a circular economy, while meeting CEFLEX recycling guidelines and Mondi’s internal ‘Path to Circularity Scorecard criteria’ sustainability standards.

Consumers will benefit from the packaging‘s durability and secure sealing. In addition, it will reduce waste and have an improved visual appeal, the companies said.

“This collaboration with Mondi is a key milestone in our sustainability journey,” said Jérôme de Solliers, CEO at Saga Nutrition, in the press release. “By transitioning to recyclable mono-material packaging, we’re contributing to a circular economy while maintaining the high quality our customers trust.”
