Could cats finally replace dogs as the most popular pets in the UK? Jollyes is significantly expanding its existing range for cats and introducing new brands specifically for millennial and Gen Z cat lovers, inspired by cat owners such as Taylor Swift, Ricky Gervais and Dermot O'Leary.

The pet store chain has added 48 per cent more cat products to its stores after internal data showed that sales of cat food have surpassed those of dog food, the specialist explains. According to UK Pet Food, 29 per cent of all households owned a cat in 2024, compared to 36 per cent with dogs. But Jollyes believes that if the trend towards smaller pets continues, the number of cats could overtake dogs in the next few years.

A cat commission was even set up with a clear vision: it wanted more big brands and more products that would allow cat owners to treat their cats at a lower price.

Jollyes will also be the first retail chain in the UK to launch an over-the-counter pet food range developed in collaboration with Calibra, a pet food brand founded by vets. The range includes meals recommended by vets to help with the four most common health problems in cats: diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, kidney disease and urinary stones.

In addition, Jollyes has expanded its own-brand range for cats. The store layout has been redesigned so that the range of cat products is immediately visible when entering the stores. This makes it easier for both first-time and regular customers with cats to find the items they want, while also allowing them to take advantage of affordable veterinary services such as microchipping and vaccinations at local animal clinics.

In the coming weeks, Jollyes also plans to expand its range of cat treats, toys and accessories, as well as its frozen food range.
