Fressnapf is permanently cutting prices in Germany for over 700 items across the range. Fressnapf-Friends even receive an additional five per cent discount in-store and online.

The pet shop chain is thus reacting to the continuing decline in consumer spending in Germany. According to NielsenIQ, prices for pet supplies have risen continuously on average over the year, Fressnapf reports, and that this could have an impact on consumer sentiment, lead to a tendency to save and, in extreme cases, result in animals being given up.

“The Germans have to save money,” says Fressnapf CEO Dr Johannes Steegmann, explaining the move. In addition to the price reductions that have now been implemented, his company is negotiating intensively with its suppliers “in order to find sustainable solutions and tailored offers for our customers”.

Many items from brand suppliers are reduced, but a large proportion of them are products that are only available exclusively from Fressnapf. In the course of the price reductions, Fressnapf has therefore also announced that it will increase the proportion of so-called exclusive brands in order to be able to offer permanently low prices in the long term. The exclusive brand portfolio currently covers all price levels, from entry-level to premium.
