Viva Italia! At this year’s show in May, Zoomark in Bologna attracted 27 950 trade visitors, nearly doubling the figure recorded in 2021. Even if the high growth rate must be set against the fact that visitor numbers two years ago were unusually low on account of the coronavirus pandemic, the fair significantly improved its market position even vis-à-vis the pre-Covid period (2019: 25 720). This was also against the background that flooding in central Italy in May prevented many Italians from even getting to Bologna for the show.

A detailed analysis by the trade fair organisers showed that visitors to the fair came primarily from pet shops and pet store chains (23.6 per cent), wholesalers and distributors (20.3 per cent) and import-export companies (19.3 per cent). 18.8 per cent were from manufacturers and industrial companies.

Above all, the international appeal of the show was demonstrated by the presence of visitors from 120 countries and five continents. The proportion of foreign visitors also broke records at 62 per cent.

The growth of Zoomark was reflected noticeably in the exhibitor numbers. In 2019, the Bologna show welcomed 757 companies (2021: 452). This year, that figure increased to 1 060, the highest number so far hosted by Zoomark. The high quality of the show stands in general received praise. At 68 000 m², the exhibition area was also bigger than hitherto; in 2019, it covered 55 000 m², while in 2021, 50 000 m² of exhibition space was available.
