The Croatia-based pet store chain Pet Network International (PNI), which already operates in five countries in south-eastern Europe, has announced the acquisition of the Bulgarian company Zoo Group Stefanov and Croatian speciality chain Zvjerinjak.

Established in 2013, Zvjerinjak’s stores are located chiefly in Zagreb. Its branches are to be incorporated over the next few months into PNI’s own Pet Centar chain.

Zoo Group Stefanov was established in 2009. It is regarded as the Bulgarian market leader with 29 stores spread across the country. PNI will combine its current business in Bulgaria with the Stefanov stores, consolidating the branches under the Dr. Stefanov brand. Mario Ivanov, CEO of Zoo Group Stefanov, will join Pet Network International as CEO for the Bulgarian market.

“This expansion strengthens PNI’s position in the region and demonstrates that growth and investment are our biggest driver,” said Timo Tervo, CEO of Pet Network International. He presented the company only recently at the International Pet Conference in Bologna.
