Italians are also finding that it costs more to keep their pets healthy.

According to a report in the Italian industry magazine B2B.it, Italian pet owners spent around 900 mio euros on keeping their pets healthy in 2021. This equates to a rise in spending of 12 per cent compared with the pre-pandemic period in 2019 (858 mio euros).

The report states that veterinary services accounted for nearly 70 per cent of these outgoings, followed by pharmaceutical products (240 mio). An increase of 26 per cent was recorded here as compared with 2019.
