The aquatics company Eheim will not exhibit at Interzoo this year. "Due to the coronavirus pandemic and high level of infections globally, the company will not be taking part this year," it has announced. Eheim managing director Ibrahim Mefire Kouotou said: "This decision has not been taken lightly, because Interzoo has always been the most important international trade show for us." The responsibility for protecting the company's staff and customers takes priority, however, according to Kouotou, and so Eheim is putting health concerns before economic interests.
Gordon Bonnet, managing director of ZZF and Interzoo organising body WZF, regrets the decision taken by Eheim not to participate in this year's Interzoo. He is confident nonetheless that Interzoo will be an attractive, safe and successful show for everyone, even while the pandemic continues. "In this phase of new beginnings and radical change in the pet supplies sector, we want to give companies space to present themselves and their products and to discuss current trends with one another," said Bonnet. The WZF boss feels vindicated by the opinion voiced by most experts that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus will recede considerably in Europe in the next few weeks.
Over 1 200 companies from 61 countries have already registered for Interzoo. An uptick in new applications has occurred just in the last few days, said Bonnet, including one from a company in South Korea.
