Big pet stores constituted the distribution channel with the highest growth rates in pet food sales in Italy last year. This was revealed by BolognaFiera, the organiser of the European trade show Zoomark International, based on the latest figures from the market research company IRI worldwide. The figures indicate that sales in large pet stores increased by 14.4 per cent in 2016 as compared with a modest rise of just 1.6 per cent for supermarkets in Italy and growth of 0.7 per cent for traditional pet shops.
The fair organisers also noted sales growth of 2.4 per cent for accessory products in 2016 compared with the previous year.
