A consumer survey shows that pet owners continue to pamper their dogs and cats in spite of the recession

In spite of the economic downturn in the Netherlands, pet owners there are still spending on their pets. This was the conclusion of a survey of 600 people in the Netherlands by the communication consultancy Porter Novelli in collaboration with DVJ Healthcare. According to the survey, 64 per cent of Dutch pet owners are not economising when it comes to their pets. The survey revealed that, to spoil their pets, owners like best to feed them an extra treat (44 per cent), followed by giving them extra attention (32 per cent) or buying them a new toy or accessory (29 per cent).
