Pet Smart reports results for the fourth quarter and fiscal 2007

Pet Smart reported net income of $ 75.4 mio for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2007, compared with net income of $ 76.9 mio for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2006. Comparable store sales – or sales in stores open at least a year - grew 0.8 per cent in the fourth quarter, on top of 4.6 per cent in the same period in 2006. During the 14-week fourth quarter, pet services sales were $ 123.4 mio, up 26.9 per cent from the 13-week fourth quarter of the year before. For all of fiscal 2007, the company reported net income of $ 258.7 mio. That compares with fiscal 2006 net income of $ 185.1 mio. Pet Smart opened 97, acquired 18 and closed 15 stores in 2007. The company also opened 35 new Pets Hotels. The 2008 guidance predicts overall sales growth of high single digits for the first quarter and for the year, also comparable store sales growth of flat to low single digits for the first quarter and low single digits for the year. 100 to 104 new stores and 45 Pets Hotels are expected for the full year.
