Every month new products come onto the pet supplies market, but only a few of them are really successful. It was interesting for the editorial team of PET worldwide to canvass the views of pet supplies retailers - and not just those in a single country, but of retail companies all over the world. The retailers surveyed had a choice of 20 different products from all product groups in the pet sector. A detailed presentation of these featured in PET worldwide 1/2019. Voting took place from January to March on the website petworldwide.net, on which all products were displayed. Although this was the first time a vote had taken place for the top new product, the response from retailers was huge; companies from the USA, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Hungary and many other countries participated.
The contest was pretty tight, with Austrian company Petco ultimately prevailing by a small majority with its new Wow! brand, presented for the first time at Interzoo. The company will be presented with its winner's certificate at Zoomark International in Bologna.

Wow! offers high-quality main food products with a high meat content that are produced in Austria, preferably from regional raw ingredients. The new brand was conceived to complement the super-premium brands Dogs's Love and Cat's Love, to round the brand portfolio downwards. According to information from Petco, it provides a dog food in the premium segment that is attractive due to a lower price but is also of high quality. As well as a moist food line with 71 per cent meat content, there is a pure line with three single protein varieties, each with a 90 per cent meat content. The dry food, likewise wholly produced in Austria and containing around 50 per cent meat, much of it fresh, comes in two pack sizes. A practical 800 g can with a freshness closure contains mini croquettes, which are especially suitable for small dogs. The 6 kg bag with normal-sized croquettes completes the range.

The prize goes to Hungary

All the participants in the voting were entered into a draw for an exclusive package of six bottles of wine from Baden. The winner is Veronika Horváth of the Hungarian pet store chain Alpha Zoo. Congratulations!
