Dehner’s themed pet store in Sindelfingen, Germany, presents a new concept for the company’s pet stores and a new destination store for customers. € 1 mio has been invested in creating a store that is striking above all for its vast scale and its bright colours. The impression of space and clarity is deepened by the uniform height of 1.40 m for the shelving, which extends in several rows on either side of a wide central aisle. Coloured, illuminated circular banners on the ceiling that point the way to the different pet categories help the customer to navigate around the store. The banner colours are picked up in the various shelf edging strips in the respective aisles as a further aid to navigation in the 2 500 m² store. If customers need to ask about anything, an information desk that can be seen from all sides is positioned in the centre of the retail area. Here some of the 20 staff working for store manager Jan Müller are on hand to answer questions. The generously proportioned pet enclosures are a highlight of the store. Customers with individual and unusual requests come to the lounge to receive in-depth advice on what they are looking for. The same attention to detail is in evidence in the reptile department, located in a sort of meandering cave passage that sets the reptiles apart from the rest of the store activity. Jungle sounds provide an acoustic backdrop here. Bearded dragons, tortoises and various types of tarantula feature among the species on offer. Fortress-like structures clad in timber house a wide variety of small animals and birds, while a large pond accommodating various pond fish and koi has been created in the centre of the store for pond enthusiasts. Dehner sets a high quality standard for the keeping and sale of pets: no pet is sold before it has been closely examined by the practice of the Berlin-based Smart Vet company that is integrated into the store. The animals are protected in other ways too. All enclosures…
