Dental hygiene is one aspect of health care that is often dismissed. Gum disease is nevertheless a significant problem for dogs, because it not only results in bad breath; it also causes pain and difficulty when eating, and can lead to a variety of other medical issues.Having brought out a classic manual toothbrush some time ago, the American company Zututh presented a new canine electric version for the first time at the American pet industry show Global Pet Expo. The toothbrush has been developed by an oral surgeon and is specially designed to fit the shape of a dog's jaw. "Zututh Breeze" uses two tandem brush heads to cover a greater surface area of the dog's mouth, thereby reducing brushing time while still maintaining effectiveness.Z-shaped brushUnlike other dog toothbrushes that are made to cover only one angle of a dog's tooth, the "Zututh Breeze" features an ergonomic handle and "Z-shaped" head to surround a dog's tooth, eliminating build-up and preventing decay."With an estimated 80 per cent of dogs acquiring periodontal disease by the age of two, it was important for us to develop a product that can help prevent that," said Dr David Dugan, oral surgeon and owner of Zututh. While products like dental sprays and rawhide may temporarily treat bad breath and some plaque build-up, according to Zututh, the new toothbrush directly attacks plaque and stimulates a dog's gums, preventing early-onset decay and gum diseases."Zututh Breeze" is available in small, medium and large sizes. Additionally, replacement heads designed specifically for groomers, vets and multiple-dog households are sold separately.Download: Dental hygiene solution for dogs (PDF file)
