Kölle Zoo is renowned for its large-format stores, which with their wide range of pets for sale and their ambience tend to evoke a zoo rather than a normal pet store. In Nuremberg, where Kölle Zoo opened its 13th store in mid-June, the company has remained true to its strategy. Shoppers can experience over 20 000 pets in the exotic surroundings and so it was no surprise that over 10 000 visitors came to the new experiential store in Nuremberg St. Leonhard over the first three days it was open, according to CEO Matthias Pohl. Of these, around 3 600 were paying customers. Matthias Pohl is naturally aware that success isn’t guaranteed in Nuremberg. Water-saving aerators, energy-saving timers and T5 lamps are further tools deployed in the quest to minimise energy consumption. The 4 000 l show aquarium that forms part of a rock feature in the entrance to the store whets the visitor’s appetite for the aquatics section. Kölle Zoo offers a huge range of fish, with over 500 different varieties. The tanks each have a different character and are attractively designed, attesting to the sterling work performed here by aquarium design world champion Oliver Knott. Marine aquariums are also well represented in Nuremberg, accounting for an overall volume of 6 000 l of water. The four coral tanks, two containing stony corals and two soft corals respectively, are of particular interest. As usual at Kölle Zoo stores, the pond is also an important focal point of the range. In the entrance area, visitors encounter a pond layout containing 17 000 l of water and a dozen original Japanese, hand-selected jumbo koi. In the terrarium department, Kölle Zoo has created an attractive jungle scene to display a large selection of different species of reptiles and amphibians. The company takes special pride in its exclusive piebald ball python. It also states that it has no dangerous venomous species in its range. 48 small mammal enclosures and twelve aviaries featuring hand-selected…
