As is familiar from previous new store openings, Kölle Zoo went all out prior to the opening to give the new store, located close to the Westkreuz transport hub, the optimum launch and raise its profile in and around Munich. For the opening the company offered a 20 per cent discount on virtually all products, and the management’s gamble paid off – between 7 000 and 8 000 customers came through the doors in the first three days, an impressive result. The outlet can justifiably be called an experience store, because it is not short on attractions and amazing pet presentations. A 5 000 l aquarium containing Asian Arowanas and built into a rock landscape awaits shoppers as they enter the store. Alongside it is a 15 000 l koi pond and an artificial tree with a terrarium incorporated into the trunk. These are by no means the only sights worth seeing in the store. A boutique designed in collaboration with Hunter gives dog and cat lovers a complete overview of the host of different leashes, collars and harnesses available. The exotic layout of the small mammal and rodent department comprises 52 enclosures containing rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, degus and other pets obtained exclusively from breeders that are certified by Kölle Zoo. The purebred species in the range are especially worth mentioning. 15 aviaries reminiscent of those in zoological gardens house common species of birds such as budgerigars, zebra finches and canaries as well as hand-selected parrots, the offspring of birds from the Loro Parque in Tenerife. Plenty of space is also given over to reptiles, with Kölle Zoo picking out the exclusive Piebald ball python as a special highlight. Top-notch aquarium department The focus of attention is the aquarium department, however. The overall volume of water is around 135 000 l, roughly equi-valent to the volume of water in a 50 m swimming pool. The freshwater aquarium display consists of 23 units, each containing 1 000 l, and includes over 500 different varieties of fish, organised according to their place of origin. The marine section, with a total volume of approx. 6 000 l of water, comprises five units, likewise each containing 1 000 l. There are also four striking coral tanks with stony corals and soft corals. An outdoor area at the end of the store featuring a 35 000 l pond as well as sales tanks with small coldwater fish lends a holiday atmosphere to the store. Also attached to the store is a Smart Vet veterinary practice, and a dog grooming salon…
