The company’s name Tatrapet derives from the Tatra Mountains, which provide the spectacular surroundings for the company’s headquarters in Liptovský Mikuláš. Not only is the town situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty; it is also favourably positioned with regard to transport links thanks to its location in the centre of Slovakia, and this also benefits Tatrapet. In just a few years the company has developed into a leading supplier of pet products. In 1992 Tatrapet also began producing food for caged birds and small animals as well as leather leads and muzzles. Demand for Tatrapet products grew steadily in the retail trade, and in 1996 the manufacturer decided to introduce its first fully automated packing machine for bird and small animal food. Further milestones in the company’s history are 2006, when Tatrapet moved to a new, modern warehouse, and 2008, when it built a new plant with a modern production line for processing food for birds and small animals. It places great emphasis on the fact that all of its products are manufactured in Slovakia. Tatrapet has also been active abroad for a number of years, establishing a subsidiary in the Czech Republic in 2002 and one in Poland three years later. It operates in both countries as a manufacturer and as a wholesaler. Tatrapet now supplies the retail trade in 16 different countries, including Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. Italy and Macedonia are recent additions to the list of export destinations. To help establish a presence in the USA in the future, the company exhibited to American pet product retailers for the first time in March at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando. As its market presence grows, Tatrapet has also expanded its private label business significantly. Its extensive experience in the pet market and its competence in pet food production make the company a valued partner. Apart from specialist retailers, its customer base now includes well-known chains such as Tesco, Kaufland and Billa. Tatrapet has been assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 since 2004, and last year completed successful recertification under ISO 9001:2008. In 2010 the company began the construction of a new granary stock for…
