New terrarium substrates The Ökotau company, a German firm specialising in clay substrates, is now offering terrarium substrates under the umbrella of its new division “HayClay”. The company says that the substrates are manufactured from natural clay without the addition of any colourings or chemical substances. The “HayClay” substrate stores water and heat, absorbing large quantities rapidly but also capable of emitting them again quickly via the air. The substrate thus ensures the ideal terrarium climate and is suitable for the incubation and hibernation of reptiles and amphibians. Four terrarium substrates are offered in pack sizes of three and eight litres: “animal bedding red”, “animal bedding brown”, “bedding layer red” and “bedding layer brown”. Ökotau highlights its international packaging design, which is in English, German, Spanish, French and Russian. www.hayclay.deEntry without a collar Radio Systems presents a new “Petsafe” cat flap. The company says that the “Microchip petporte smart flap” reacts to the microchip already implanted in many cats, and so no additional collar is required for the pet. The flap also has a dusk sensor that closes the flap when darkness falls, ensuring that the pet remains in the house. Different times can be programmed for opening of the flap. According to the company, this offers the advantage of preventing other cats from entering the house. In addition, the “Microchip petporte” has a veterinary mode, which lets the cat in but not out again and emits a signal indicating that the pet has returned home. www.petsafe.netHolistic nutrition made simple Animal Nutrition Science introduces “LifeStages” for companions at different life stages: “Grow & Glow”, “Happy & Healthy”, and “Active Aging”. It encapsulates the essence of essential herbs, vitamins and minerals without harmful fillers or preservatives. Light for reptiles Sylvania presents the “Reptistar Mixed” reflector lamp, which was developed to keep reptiles in the optimum condition, according to the company. The lamp consists of a glow filament to produce infrared radiation and a mercury arc lamp to emit UV radiation. The UV-B content is five per cent and promotes the formation of vitamin D3, which assists in healthy growth and general well-being. Infrared radiation provides the necessary heat for cold-blooded species…
