Owned by the Constantakopoulos family, Geohellas was established in 1999 and is headquartered in Athens. Captain Constantakopoulos is the founder and owner of Costamare Shipping Company, established in 1974 and today the world's largest privately held container shipping company. The company's subsidiary Geohellas offers a range of premium quality saponite clumping litters, as well as a range of attapulgite traditional lightweight litters. Geohellas produces primarily private label litters along with its own two brands "Sandy" and the new "Who Cares" cat litter already mentioned."The new cat litter brand 'Who Cares' is intended to satisfy the customers' needs for good quality and good value for money," marketing executive Katerina Tsintola says. She stresses that it's a 100 per cent natural clay cat litter of the traditional lightweight, clumping variety. Its supreme liquid absorption rate and unique and distinctive odour control make it ideal for use in the home. "Who Cares" is also available with a lavender aroma and comes in 5 and 10 kg bags.Europe-wide operationGeohellas currently supplies customers throughout Europe as well as in some neighbouring countries that are not yet EU members. It entered the market with its own brand "Sandy", a traditional lightweight and ultra-compact clumping cat litter. "With its high absorption rate of 450 per cent and natural odour-neutralising properties there is no need for constant cleaning of the litter box," Katerina Tsintola continues. The product is available in 5 and 10 kg bags and in two varieties, regular and with baby powder. To extend its market share, Geohellas undertakes continuous research and development. The R&D department is constantly looking to differentiate and enhance the cat litter products through innovative formulas and packaging. An ongoing drilling and mapping programme has already located reserves in excess of 20 million metric tons. The plant's annual capacity is 100 000 metric tons, and the potential exists to double this within a short time if the need should arise. 30 people are currently employed at the plant.New products will be introduced in 2010 to extend the 'Sandy' cat litter range further.Download: Litter products from Greece (PDF file)
