Going back to the 18th century, Samuel Fox Armitage laid down the foundations of the company by manufacturing and selling chicken feed. In 1960, chicken feed manufacture ceased; the manufacture and wholesaling of other pet products increased at this time and in 1965 the production of Armitage Pet Care’s best-selling line, “Good Boy” choc drops, commenced. In 1976 Armitage Pet Care was granted a Royal Warrant as pet food manufacturer to Queen Elizabeth II. With over 200 years of expertise the company is one of the market leaders in the UK, with many brands in its portfolio:
“Good Boy” – a wide range of dog toys, chews, treats, accessories and feeding equipment.
“Good Girl” – cat toys, treats, accessories and feeding equipment.
“Rotastak” – small animal housing, accessories, treats and food, ideal for hamsters, mice and gerbils.
“Wafcol” – a comprehensive range of complete dry foods to suit the needs of all types of dogs dependent on their age, lifestyle or specific dietary requirements.
Other brands include “Kagesan”, “Gussie”, “Algarde”, “Phoenix”, “FinS” and “Armitage” pet care. Over 2 000 products are controlled by a sophisticated stock control system and a rapid distribution network serving all parts of the globe. In this way, Armitage provides retailers with a ‘one-stop-shop’ in the key areas of accessories and food.
Export to over 30 countries
Armitage Pet Care employs more than 150 staff, over half of whom work in the warehouse and factories. While its administrative offices, distribution centre and the “Good Boy” factory are located in Colwick, Nottingham, it also has the Pinxton plastics manufacturing facility based in Pinxton, Nottinghamshire, which produces the “Rotastak” range. The company calls itself one of the last remaining pet manufacturers as well as suppliers in the UK with an import/ manufacturing ratio of 50:50. In Armitage Pet Care’s huge portfolio the main products still produced by the company are the “Rotastak” range together with a vast array of plastic accessories and the “Dog Safe Good Boy” choc drops. Armitage also has Rathburns to produce its collar and lead range. The company recently started to export “Good Boy” choc drops and “Good Girl” edible products to the American market.
