Alpha Vet was founded as an Animal Hospital in 1970 in Székesfehérvár. For a long time the clinic was one of Hungary’s largest animal clinics, and from these beginnings it has operated a 24-hour service for pets and large animals ever since. Alpha-Vet also has two operating theatres for small animals. And the pharmacy division has a warehouse covering an area of over 2000 m² and a service room offering a range of 20,000 different medicines and instruments for veterinarians and breeders.
Established initially as just a pet clinic, Alpha-Vet has developed into a leading wholesaler and specialist supplier.
It was eleven years before Alpha-Vet opened its first pet product outlet as a small 40 m² shop inside the pet clinic. This was slowly enlarged to its current size of 300 m². The company’s wholesale business developed in parallel, its product range expanded continuously and it now markets around 10,000 products. They offer their customers a wide range of dog and cat food, pet accessories such as cosmetics, vitamins, mineral accessories, rawhide chews and sticks, munchy sticks, toys, beds, collars etc. In 1996 the company changed its name to Alpha-Vet Állatgyógyászati Kft, and by 1998 Alpha-Vet Ltd. had become a market leader in the distribution of pharmaceutical products, pet food and accessories. The pet shop division also started to publish “Alpha Pet News”, with a circulation of 3,000 copies per month as well as the pharmaceutical division’s “Alpha Vet News” in 5,500 copies per month.
In addition to its wholesale business, Alpha-Vet runs pet product stores in Budapest, Debrecen, Békéscsaba and Sárvár.
In 1998 Alpha-Vet became a general importer for Eukanuba and Iams products, adding products by companies such as Trixie, Chicopee and Flexi a little while later. Service for its customers in the specialist trade is high on Alpha-Vet’s list of priorities: customers can place orders via six direct telephone lines as well as by SMS and e-mail, even at weekends and during holiday periods. Small orders are delivered within 24 hours by GLS courier. Larger quantities they deliver via their distribution service free of charge in their fleet of more than 30 trucks.
Alpha-Vet has since also opened four pet product stores. These are located in the towns of Budapest, Debrecen, Békéscsaba and Sárvár, all in regions of Hungary boasting sizeable populations with money to spend. The biggest store is “Alpha Zoo” in Budapest, which was opened in 2000.
