The high point of the event, which was generously sponsored by suppliers, was a joint appearance by Fressnapf proprietor Torsten Toeller and Bob Moran, chief operating officer of the major US specialist chain Pets Mart. The two have known and admired one another for some time and are now working together to import products from the Far East. Both companies have developed in a similar fashion: Pets Mart was founded in 1987 and operates over 600 large-format stores in the USA and Canada, achieving annual sales of approx. US $ 3 bn. Fressnapf was founded in 1990 and has 500 outlets bringing in roughly 560 mio euro. The two companies exert a significant influence on the pet product industry in their respective continents and are likely to continue to do so in the future.

“We’re the coolest discount trader in the world,” a self-confident Torsten Toeller declared in his welcoming address. As if to underline his comments, Toeller opened the proceedings by riding onto the stage on a Harley Davidson, to huge cheers from the partygoers.

Anyone believing that Fressnapf’s rate of expansion is slowing down is mistaken, according to Toeller. The company intends to step up the pace considerably in the future. “We will open the next 500 stores in the half the time it took to open the first 500.” The principal aim here is to get the “Fressnapf” brand into the minds of consumers.
Toeller paid a huge compliment to his franchisees, who had made the company’s success possible in the first place, saying “Our most important capital is the people who have created all this”.
The party venue: Movie World in Bottrop.
Top-class music, dancing, superb fireworks, a sumptuous buffet, amusement booths, carousels and a raffle – there was no shortage of entertainment on offer for the guests, and the hours flew by, the theme park only gradually beginning to empty as dawn broke.   maj
