When Adam Koszowski set up Euro-Zoo in 1989, he little suspected that the company would become Poland’s leading wholesaler within a few years. In the initial period of its existence, Euro-Zoo specialised primarily in the production of birdcages. It moved into the wholesale trade in 1991, relinquishing the pet shop business that it was running at the time shortly afterwards. Since the mid-1990s Euro-Zoo has concentrated exclusively on wholesaling.

The Warsaw-based company stocks an impressive range containing around 6 000 products. Its principal suppliers include Hagen, Tetra, Dohse Aquaristik (“Hobby“), Tropical, Gimborn, Vitakraft, Juwel Aquarium, Ferplast, JRS, Flexi, Tolsa and Back to Nature, many of which are exclusive to Euro-Zoo. The company also has various products of its own, which it imports directly from all over the world, as well as the private labels “Hilton” (for dogs and cats) and “Animals” (for birds and rodents). The two private labels comprise a range of approximately 800 products.

To guarantee rapid and reliable distribution to the pet product trade and the well-represented hypermarket chains in Poland (Auchan, Tesco, Carrefour etc.), Euro-Zoo has created four branches distributed across the country, each boasting 1.100 m² warehouses, in Gda´nsk, Pozna´n, Katowice and Kraków. A modern 4 300 m² logistics centre has also been created at the company’s headquarters. Around 40 of the 200-plus staff now employed by the company work there. Euro-Zoo’s 2 600 or so Polish customers can expect to receive a delivery of placing an order.

Euro-Zoo also provides a shop-fitting service for the Polish pet product trade, putting together complete shop-fitting systems at its headquarters in close consultation with clients. Another line of business in which this dynamic company is involved is supplying ornamental fish and koi carp to Polish pet shops.
The “Hilton” private label range for dogs and cats comprises around 500 products.
The export trade is an area of increasing interest to Euro-Zoo. Exports by the company already account for 8 per cent of overall sales, according to export account supervisor Lukasz Golþebiewski, who anticipates that this figure will rise to 10 per cent by the end of the year. The company now markets its products in 15 countries, including…
