Claus Döring took on exclusive distribution for Germany, the principal aquatics market in Europe, from the Italian firm Elos two years ago. Since then, the brand that was tipped privately at first has gone on to become the house brand of some of the most successful and well-known specialist aquatics dealers

“Elos offers us an unrivalled and extraordinary alternative in all product groups to the standard products that we have worked with up to now”, enthuses the German specialist dealer Steffen Rothe of Zoo Z Rinteln. The experienced aquatics dealer is not alone in holding this opinion. As well as select smaller shops, the clientele of Elos now includes respected addresses in Germany’s pet business such as Aquarium Tonndorf in Hamburg, Aqua Top in Würselen and the Aquarium-Center Wildenauer in Munich. “The interest of the pet supply trade in Elos aquatic products is increasing, as word has evidently got about in the sector that the product and marketing concept developed under the name Elos yields impressive results for end users just as it does for dealers“, explains Claus Döring.
“To stimulate the customer into buying, it’s necessary nowadays to present products that ‘get under the customer’s skin’”, says Claus Döring.
In Italy, the brand’s native country, Elos has evolved in just three and a half years from a newcomer to the market leader in the marine aquatics segment as well as for high quality freshwater aquaria, Claus Döring notes. The brand is now successfully represented in various countries including England, Singapore and Japan.
“Our success is not an accident of fate”, says Claus Döring, “but on the contrary the result of hard work and our ability to understand the worries and problems of the pet trade and react flexibly to changing requirements. In a certain respect we help our dealers to make themselves independent of the general market trend by adopting made-to-measure concepts.”
To do this, one naturally needs products that live up to their promises, according to Claus Döring. “This can’t be done for an insignificant sum, but it enables our end consumers to have the kind of aquaria that the aquatics trade has scarcely been able to offer them previously. It comes as no surprise to us that, in spite of the generally touted excuse that purchasing power has declined, the consumer is more than ready to spend a bit more on convincing products and arguments instead of being satisfied with less.” For freshwater and marine aquaria, for beginners, experts and professionals, Elos supplies virtually everything the ornamental fish enthusiast wants, from water treatment products via substrates, fertilizer, feeding and CO2systems to the mineral supply, filter, lighting and control systems as well as complete aquarium combinations.
