Botanic opens new stores
Botanic, the French garden centre chain, is planning a nationwide expansion of its distribution network. After opening a new store in Toulouse, the first outlet is to be inaugurated in the Paris region.
New president at PetsMart
The board of directors of the US retail chain PetsMart has appointed Robert F. Moran to the position of president and chief operating officer. Moran had been the company's president of North American stores. Moran assumes the role of president from Philip L. Francis, who remains chairman and CEO for PetsMart.
Successful Dibevo
Organisers, visitors and exhibitors alike were delighted by the "colossal success" of the Dibevo trade fair, held for the first time at Den Bosch in the Netherlands. Over 6 000 visitors made their way to see the 100-plus exhibitors. The next Dibevo is due to be held in 2003, once again at Den Bosch.
 Resistance to the big multiples
The specialist pet trade in Italy is aligning itself against the growing number of chains from the Nuilfugand garden sectors, some of them quite alien to the branch. A total of 112 Italian specialist pet retailers have come together under the umbrella of the 7 più company, working within a franchising system though able to keep their full independence. Just recently 7 più moved into a logistics centre at Landriano in the province of Pisa, from which point all members are supplied as quickly as possible. The target is to deliver the goods to specialist pet dealers within 24 hours of placing the order. In addition to the basic range of products 7 più also offers its members many fast-moving exclusive items including a super premium line of food under the "Optima" brand name.
New management team at Mostert Absorbents
There is a new management team at Mostert Absorbents. As of now the Dutch producer of cat litter has a powerful team at the helm, headed by managing director Hans van den Berg, sales director Ella Goeders and buying director Stefanie Terlouw, who have between them accumulated a great deal of professional experience working for renowned international companies.
At Vlaardingen, the world's biggest and most modern port area, Mostert Absorbents owns ultra-modern facilities on a site covering approx. 50 000 m2 for processing and transporting the raw materials upon arrival.
