The Austrian Biogena Group has acquired a 13.7 per cent stake in the Styrian company Herosan Petcare. Both companies announced this on LinkedIn on 20 August. Herosan Petcare, based in Neutillmitsch in Styria, was founded in 2019 and, according to its own LinkedIn profile, employs between 11 and 50 staff.

The company produces complete pet foods based on insect protein, which are marketed under the EntoVital brand for dogs and cats, as well as supplementary feeds and CBD products made from hemp grown on its own farms. Its distribution partners are primarily vets and veterinary naturopaths.

Founded in 2006, the Salzburg-based Biogena Group produces food supplements for human consumption and is already active in the animal health sector through Biogena Pets. Company founder and CEO Albert Schmidbauer attributes this move to the shared approach of taking a holistic view of health.
