The Polish biotech start-up Proteine Resources has presented what it claims is the first comprehensive survey of the European direct-to-consumer (D2C) market for pet food. It covers 113 brands across 28 markets and more than 8,900 products. The key findings: highly concentrated funding, a significant subscription premium and a narrowing East-West price gap. The study, which is positioned as independent, was published by the Polish biotech company Proteine Resources, which itself develops functional alternative proteins based on insects and fungi (EntoPro) and explicitly identifies this as a strategic area it intends to expand.
