Croatia: MHP opens MHP Pet Food

MHP opened MHP Pet Food, the first wet pet food production facility within the MHP Group and in Croatia, located in Zlatar Bistrica. The facility represents an investment of more than €43 mio and will produce the company’s new pet food brand, Proof, the company reported in a LinkedIn post. Developed according to modern nutritional standards, Proof products feature high meat content, controlled origin of raw materials, and grain-free formulas. The brand was created in response to growing demand for premium-quality pet food.

MHP Pet Food is a dedicated business unit of the MHP Group, Europe's largest poultry producer, according to the company. Building on MHP’s deep expertise in meat production and vertical integration, they create high-quality pet food designed for companion animals – ‘because pets are part of the family.’

For decades, MHP has been building expertise in food production. This experience, together with complete control over raw material sourcing, high production standards, and a strong focus on quality and safety, now forms the foundation of MHP’s new pet food business. The project combines advanced production technologies with the broader circular economy strategy of MHP Perutnina Ptuj Group and.

The new facility also reinforces MHP’s long-term commitment to sustainable development in South-Eastern Europe, creating new opportunities for employment, local suppliers, and regional economic development. During the opening ceremony, MHP Group also announced support for the local community through a donation for a new fire truck for the Municipality of Zlatar Bistrica.
