Interzoo opens with press conference

ZZF president Norbert Holthenrich opened Interzoo in Nuremberg on this Tuesday with emotional words. In a world in which outward appearances often seem to matter most, pets represented the exact opposite: ‘a relationship without likes, without filters – but with genuine emotional bonds’.

‘Even after 48 years in the pet industry, I am still inspired by this very special relationship between people and animals,’ he said. ‘And I am convinced that, for many of the companies presenting themselves at our Interzoo over the coming four days, it is both a driving force and a responsibility.’

This emotional bond is also reflected in economic terms: the global pet industry generated more than €189 bn last year.

According to Holthenrich, more than half of pet owners see themselves as parents to their dogs, cats, rabbits or birds and feel responsible for ensuring they enjoy healthy and carefree lives.

The international pet industry is responding to this demand with an increasingly diversified range of health-promoting and sustainable products. Solutions range from nutrition and accessories to smart technologies designed to make living with pets safer, easier and more comfortable.

Until 15 May, 2,400 exhibitors from 70 countries will present their innovations across a total exhibition area of 150,000 sqm. According to the organisers, this makes Interzoo 2026 the largest and most international edition in its history. Trade visitors from around 140 countries are expected to attend. They can look forward to a diverse supporting programme featuring short conferences, stage presentations and numerous opportunities to exchange ideas with decision-makers and innovators from across the industry.
