According to media reports, there is no turning back for French start-up Ynsect, which has been attempting to industrialise insect farming: following a decision by the Evry Commercial Court, the company has been in final insolvency since 1 December.

This event brings an end to several years of economic difficulties – as recently as April, it was reported that long-standing investors had pledged additional funds of around €10 million to the struggling insect producer. This was intended to enable the company to meet its existing obligations, continue production and secure operations for several months while it searched for a long-term investor and potential buyers (PET worldwide reported). The 45,000 m² factory in Poulainville (Somme), which was only inaugurated in 2021, is closing its doors for good – 43 employees are said to be affected.
